Was Conscription in WWI Necassary?
In the end, I believe that conscription was not necassary in any way. I feel that all conscription had caused what controversy because of all of the different group that disagreed, violence, because of the strikes in Montreal and Ottowa's response, and a complete waste of time. The point of conscription was to expand the Canadian army and it succeeded by enlisting 130,000 soldiers into the army but in the end proved to be a useless effort because only 25,000 of them had reached warfare grounds in France before the war had ended. In conclusion, i feel that the manditry enlistment in the military is not good for society because of the social issues between groups, economy because of it's effects on workers and farmers, and politically because of the hatred brought to Bordon for lying about conscription. I believe that Canada being a free countrey, should have respected the rights of everyone and should not have taken away the freedom of those who were forced to enlist in the war.
